Pakatan Rakyat Selangor Unfair in Awarding Contracts

Shah Alam, 30 June Contractors visiting the official portal and website of the Selangor state government to submit their tenders discovered that they must require the signature or official chop of any state assemblymen or members of Parliament from Pakatan Rakyat only. This thus reveals that the Selangor state government is practicing favouritism and cronyism in awarding contracts to only people who are seen to be allied towards Pakatan Rakyat.

In a press conference by MCA Youth Selangor Chairman Dr Kow Cheong Wei, along with other leaders of MCA Youth Selangor, it was revealed that this condition, shown in very fine print, can be seen in the business sub-category of the official Selangor website.

MCA Youth Selangor demands that the Selangor government answer why contractors must have the official chop as businesses must be based on a companys track record and not on who you know. Besides that, politicians have no right to certify the technical expertise of contractors as in Malaysia there are only two certified bodies which have the required technical background to certify contractors which are CIDB and PKK.

Not the first time

Cheong Wei also revealed that this was not the first time this problem had appeared. Previously, forms from the local councils had a column whereby the signature and official chop of a Pakatan Rakyat MP or state assemblymen was required. No answer was given when MCA Youth Selangor revealed this unnecessary requirement, and the forms disappeared 8 to 9 months later. However, it seems that Pakatan Rakyat has refused to learn and has now turned to the internet.

While PR made claims of cronyism among BN politicians in the awarding of contracts, it seems that they t! hemselve s are not free from this sin. While BN previously had no such requirements, since taking over the government PR now seems to be taking sides and awarding contract only to their lackeys. Obviously PR is not practicing what it preaches.
