Langkah Tepat Kerajaan Utamakan Golongan Sederhana Dalam Bajet 2013

Image

Get ducks in a row before criticising Budget, CM told

GEORGE TOWN: Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng has been told to look into his own backyard before criticising Budget 2013. Penang Wanita MCA chief Tan Cheng Liang said Lim should take a look at his own state first. "It appears to be the norm for Pakatan Rakyat to criticise everything that Barisan Nasional does, despite the fact that our actions have helped benefit many Malaysians. "Budget 2013 has been roundly praised by the public and stakeholders alike for encompassing all levels of society, including the middle income group, and addressing the concerns of the public such as housing and security, education and health," she said in a statement yesterday. Tan said that while the Barisan Federal Government gave aid to all Malaysians, the Penang Government only chose to give aid to registered voters in Penang. Lim had, on Friday, questioned how the RM30bil in expenditures would benefit the people directly. At a function in Butterworth yesterday, he said that

Ka Siong: All stakeholders gave their input

THE National Education Blueprint was drawn up after soliciting views from all stakeholders, including Barisan Nasional component parties. Deputy Education Minister Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong , who explained this, said all political parties were invited to a roundtable on June 25 this year to give their input. He said 12,000 stakeholders participated in 33 roundtable dialogues and 16 town hall meetings nationwide. The blueprint was launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak earlier this month. It outlined 11 shifts required to transform the national education system to be on par with and comparable to that of developed nations, over the next 13 years. In his speech, Gerakan Youth chief Datuk Lim Si Pin alleged that Gerakan and smaller Barisan component parties were not invited to provide feedback in the run-up to the tabling of the blueprint. On Budget 2013, Dr Wee, who is the MCA Youth chief, described it as a realistic approach in helping the people. "The

Budget the result of a well-managed economy, says Najib

Image
SEREMBAN: Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said Budget 2013 is the result of a well-managed economy powered by an administration bent on doing its best for the people. The Prime Minister said the Government's resilient policies and elaborate measures had helped the nation chart impressive economic growth at a time when many other nations, including developed ones, were facing crises or meltdowns. "We are able to do so (provide the incentives) as Malaysia has remained an oasis when many other nations are facing a myriad of economic problems. "The policies put in place by my government have also helped attract both foreign and domestic investments and we (the nation) are now reaping the rewards," he told the mammoth crowd that turned up at the Janji Ditepati (Pledges Fulfilled) programme at the Paroi Sports Complex here yesterday. Couple conned in job scam

Image
GEORGE TOWN: A housewife's joy when her husband landed a new job in Newscastle, Australia, was shortlived when they were cheated of RM8,500 for an Australian work permit. Samantha Loh, 33, is now worried that her husband is stranded there. Loh, a former interior designer, said both she and her husband met a 34-year-old woman who was married to someone they knew. She then introduced them to the "job" as an operator in a poultry manufacturing plant. Evidence: Loh holding up a copy of the police report she made against the agent while Lim holds a copy of the application form for a work permit filled by Loh's husband. "She said the job offered an attractive salary of A$ 14 (RM44) per hour," she added. Loh said she and her husband banked in RM5,000 into the woman's account on July 25 and the remaining RM3,500 on Aug 2. She said on Sept 4, her husband, whom she declined to identify, flew to Brisbane together with another man known as "Ah

Liow hopes allocations will help reduce NCD

PETALING JAYA: Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai hopes that the Budget allocation for blood test screening and free health checks under the Social Security Organisation (Socso) will help reduce non-communicable diseases (NCD) by 10% to 20%. He said the funds would help in financing programmes for the early prevention of such diseases. "Many people come too late for check-ups and by then, they may have to be put on long-term medication," said Liow. The Budget 2013 will see cholesterol, sugar and urine tests being offered by 1Malaysia Clinics, while a RM200mil allocation for Socso would enable 1.4 million people aged between 40 and 55 years old to get free health check-ups. Liow also that said more than 50% of breast cancer cases were detected late and welcomed the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry's RM25mil allocation for free mammogram screenings for 100,000 women aged 40 and above. Katanya, sehingga kini janji PR mahu menubuhkan kerajaan bayangan masih belum ditunaikan kerana takut mahu mengagih jawatan sesama sendiri. "Jangan mahu tubuhkan kerajaan, tubuhkan dahulu Kabinet bayangan itu. Chua: Budget 2013 benefits young, middle-aged and seniors

Image
PETALING JAYA: Budget 2013 caters to every sector of the economy and will benefit the young, the middle-aged and senior citizens, said MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek. Describing it as a "wide-ranging" and "well-thought" budget, he said the forecast of 4.5% to 5% growth was commendable in view of the strong economic headwinds against Malaysia. To promote prudent spending, the Government should seriously look into reducing its expenditure and leakages. - Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek. "While there is the RM10bil development scheme for small and medium-sized enterprises, more could be done to help them cope with the implementation of minimum wage next year," he said, welcoming the new loan facility and group insurance scheme for petty traders. "To promote prudent spending, the Government should seriously look into reducing its expenditure and leakages. "The rationalisation of subsidies and broad-based tax structures should also be

Tweet and die

Image
The backlash from Perak DAP strongman Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham's controversial tweet in connection with a video insulting the Holy Prophet Muhammad has dented his party's image among Muslims and will cost his partners in PAS precious votes. DATUK Ngeh Koo Ham was probably having trouble sleeping on the night he tweeted about Umno Youth's plans to protest against the film mocking the Holy Prophet Muhammad. Ngeh had apparently been watching CNN, BBC and Al-Jazeera news reports on the Muslim protests taking place all over the world and he posted the tweet on Sept 17, at 1.43am, little knowing that it would soon engulf him in a political firestorm. The tweet was also in response to Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin's plans for his wing and the PAS Youth wing to have a joint demonstration against the film that has angered Muslims worldwide. Ngeh's tweet read: "Khairy wants Muslim protest against Sam Bacile. For Islam or for his political gains? Are Muslims wastin

Slow death of Damascus

Image
When no solution or resolution is allowed to work for Syria, it could just bleed to death. THE Syrian conflict has morphed into a painful and dangerous war of attrition for five reasons, none of them the official one of scale. The purported reason so frequently cited by international media and diplomats, that of 30,000 dead and counting, and 1.5 million refugees, is a result of the spiralling conflict and not a cause of it. The first of the actual reasons is the continually escalating conflict with no apparent or conceivable limits. If a country can be said to bleed to death, Syria tragically is at gravest risk of doing so. The second reason is that all the parties to the conflict are actively engaged in the escalation, with none of them having any interest in stopping or even mitigating it. The third is that external parties with an interest in Syria continue to fuel the flames. Iraq and Iran are said to be contributing in different ways to the Syrian government's arme

Footloose MPs lead a merry dance

Image
India's political musical chair is moving along merrily as the government of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh seeks to complete its five-year term. HOW long will the Manmohan Singh Government last? That question is beginning to be asked increasingly following the withdrawal of support by the Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Bannerjee. The maverick Trinamool boss has pulled out her 18 MPs from the ruling United Progressive Alliance (UPA), thus reducing the government to a minority in parliament. The Government is on the back foot with a series of corruption scams, a long period of policy paralysis, rising food prices and a fast slowing economy. Yet, most surprisingly, it looks as if it may still complete its full five-year term till May 2014. Of course, it will be by sheer default since the main opposition, the Bharatiya Janata Party, is itself engaged in an internal leadership tussle. Besides, there are too many footloose players in Parli

Share an idea and pass it on to another

Image
Instead of just selling yourself, why not share an idea that people can pick up and pass on to another. HE definitely didn't get me at "Hello". Neither did I get him at the end of our rather long, turgid conversation. I actually lost him after four sentences, and had to conclude, as he continued his one-sided conversation, that he must really like the sound of his own voice. Not that it was particularly attractive, either. Perhaps he was not aware of my muted response and glazed-over eyes, so he could not stop himself. On and on he went, fuelled by his own prattle, assured in his convictions. While failing as a listener, I could not fail to observe him. He confidently continued to talk about himself, his wonderful work and his numerous achievements. It was all about him, strictly speaking, building a strong case for self-promotion. He had all the right gestures, maintained eye contact and was carefully placing the right jargon in his sentences. He was telling me a

Ahli Politik, Artis Bersatu Di Malam Seni Mencintai Nabi Muhammad

Jamil Khir, dalam ucapan ringkasnya, berkata kerjasama masyarakat Islam tanpa mengira fahaman politik a

It’s unwise to bet on the hope of striking it rich

Image
I AM already at the age where I should start worrying about whether there is enough in my EPF savings to tide me through my retirement years. Okay, maybe this statement is not quite correct because, one, I may still be gainfully employed for a good number of years if the "retire at 60" Bill is implemented before I reach 55. And two, seriously, I do not worry about such things. But many of us are anxious about money matters. Hardly a day goes by when someone does not lament about the rising cost of living, or remark that the interest rate on fixed deposits is way too low. At least, that's what people in my generation seem to be concerned about, even if those in the younger generation have no qualms about running up credit card bills and upgrading to the latest smartphones. We may say that money does not grow on trees, but many yearn for instant wealth. Some even fall prey to get-rich-quick scams while others faithfully "invest" in the many options tha

HOT : GUAN ENG UMUMKAN SLOGAN BARU PAKATAN RAKYAT PULAU PINANG....

Image
