KUALA LUMPUR Shortage has forced syariah court judges to hear at least 800 marriage and divorce cases annually, Dewan Rakyat was told Thursday. Deputy Minister in the Prime Ministers Department Datuk Dr Mashitah Ibrahim said the shortage led to the postponement and backlog of many divorce cases. We applied for 12 lower court judges but were approved only six and for high court we asked for eight and were approved four, she said in reply to a supplementary question from Nasharudin Mat Isa (PAS-Bachok) who asked about measures to address the postponement of divorces cases.
