Unkind cut: PAS causes hairfall of people's genuine livelihoods – MCA Youth Sec Gen on hair salon fined

DAP should be criticized for not taking any efforts to safeguard the rights of non-Muslims in Kelantan especially when the latter's fundamental rights have been severely encroached by PAS.

The Kota Bharu Municipal Council (MPKB) by-law which deemed that E-Life Salon had committed an offence when one of its female hairdressers had cut the hair of a male client is unreasonable and peculiar as it has severely impeded the freedom and right to livelihood of non-Muslims.

Besides prohibiting female hair stylists to style the hair of male clients and vice versa, other clauses included in the Local Council Act by-law are: no cubicle is allowed to be set up in the shop, all doors to rooms must not be locked, no drinks are allowed to be provided, business hours must close by 10:00 p.m. latest and are not permitted to operate during weekends. In the event there is one Muslim lady hair-stylist in the salon, all other male hair stylists and clients must wait outside the salon and are forbidden from being inside the salon simultaneously.

From the regulations above, it is very obvious that the Kelantan state government encroaches into the freedoms and livelihoods of non-Muslims as their business operations have been greatly hindered.

DAP voiceless against PAS as usual

I challenge the Secretary-General of DAP Lim Guan Eng to come out quickly to make his position clear on the said MPKB by-laws and not just leave it to DAP Chairman Karpal Singh to express objection against the regulation alone.

Kelantan exco Dato' Takiyuddin Hassan had even claimed that Karpal would agree with the legislation, which shows that DAP is being bullied by PAS where even both Lim Kit Siang and Guan Eng dare not open their mouths. This against highlights that DAP is in no position nor has the courage to resist PAS.
