MCA establishes Secretariat established to assist businesses impeded by PAS hudud enactments
MCA HQ, 27 Nov – "We have already said many times that PAS will never give up its so-called Islamic agenda, and that if PAS comes to be a dominant power, there will be lots of do's and don'ts – how we dress, whether our hair can be cropped by ladies or men. It will come to a stage that a lady can never travel alone with a man, cannot take taxi alone at night because this gives rise to immoral activities."
The above alarm was sounded by MCA President Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek when a journalist asked for his response regarding the planned protest by PAS against the Elton John concert scheduled in Genting during a press conference convened after the conclusion of the MCA Central Committee (CC) meeting.
"If I run my business and in 2 years, receive 11 summons for cropping men's hair," voiced Soi Lek before elaborating that the CC had deliberated and felt that the party should help businesses affected by PAS' hudud enactments in any of the Pakatan states to be relocated to BN-helmed states like Johor, Melaka, Pahang, Negeri Sembilan and Terengganu.
"We will give general and legal advice, help them to get approval. We can even provide funding," explained the party chief in reference to the 1MCA Micro Credit Loan Scheme for Youth.
He further elaborated that MCA will set up a Secretariat in the Headquarters and will welcome them. The President's Press Secretary Sdr Giam Say Khoon has been appointed to take charge of this Secretariat. He may be reached at tel: 03-2203 3888. Soi Lek explained that Giam was assigned to this duty "because everyday he sees me and can tell me. Once a week he must report to me who calls."
The Secretariat is intended to aid all people regardless of ethnicity affected by PAS' backward policy like cinema which have suffered closure in Kelantan.
"We are prepared to help in terms of giving advice, applications to get approval from the related authorities, financial loan funding help and a base for doing business so that they don't experience complications and difficulty from the authorities," reiterated Soi Lek.
50% of Kelantan's population have no access to water supply yet the PAS govt is still fixated with gender segregation
The party chief explained that the above scenarios are possible because of what has happened in other countries before stressing that the PAS-held Kelantan state government should address bigger issues like 50% of the population do not have access to water supply - a basic human right to hygiene.
In addition to that, Soi Lek further elaborated that this East Coast state has the highest unemployment rate in Malaysia. "Kelantan is able to reduce unemployment because all the people have migrated to Kuala Lumpur in search for jobs." A good example would be Andres Ong Lee Ting the brother to Alice Ong Lee Ruong who, after being issued summons by the Kota Bharu Municipal Council for styling a lady client's hair left Kelantan. Amidst fears of being further fined in his own home state, this uncompromising and unpromising situation under PAS caused Andres to seek greener pastures in Barisan Nasional-helmed Johor which policies encourages business and work opportunities .
He further called on the Kelantan state administration to resolve its own domestic problems which are major ailments afflicting Kelantanese rather than being obsessed with gender segregation and moral policing. "Kelantan has enough social problems to keep them busy. Drug addition, HIV, divorce – these 3 major issues which they should address," emphasized the party chief.
He also urged that "if they don't like the (Elton John) concert, they should not go. Other people should not be denied the opportunity to enjoy the concert."
The party President stressed that "I am not talking about hudud law." He clarified that PAS' conduct in enforcing ultra conservative by-laws unto non-Muslims "is PAS' strict interpretation of Islamic values which they try to impose on others."
"When we say this, they say we are anti-Islam. MCA has been part of BN for so long. Islam is the nation's official religion. If you see the nation's buildings, there are many masjid's. This is part of BN's efforts and MCA is part of BN," thus explaining MCA's stand that our party is in no-way anti-Islam as oft erroneously and condescending accused by PAS to stoke supporters against MCA and BN.
PAS is a political party, not a religion
In urging PAS not to misuse and play up the religious card, Soi Lek highlighted that "PAS thinks they are Islam. PAS is a political party. They are not Islam. PAS is exploiting Islam for its political agenda," whilst pointing out that "PAS is doing a disservice to Islam in this country. No religion will want to play up that people are to be condemned (dihancurkan) except PAS."
Political eunuch DAP in face of PAS' true colours
Nevertheless, the MCA President expressed that consolation is seen in that "in the same way, we are happy PAS is showing its true colours and DAP is quiet. DAP is a political eunuch when dealing with PAS, but a superman when dealing with MCA. Why is DAP so quiet on the latest incident on the hair salon?" asked Soi Lek in alluding that once again DAP chairman Karpal Singh rides alone in having spoken up but no other DAP leader or member dares to voice any objection.
