Democratic country where everyone is free to contest
MCA HQ, 27 Nov – Reporters covering the press conference conducted by the MCA Young Professionals Bureau chairman DAtuk Chua Tee Yong had also asked for his comment on rumours that DAP Senator S. Ramakrishnan may contest the parliamentary constituency of Labis where he is the current incumbent.
"Anyone is free to contest. There are lots of rumours but I will continue to work and serve my constituency with programmes," replied Tee Yong before adding that "last time, they said Lim Kit Siang would contest."
Stressing on the importance of democracy, the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Agro-based Industry expressed his hope that the Barisan Nasional leadership would nominate him to defend his seat. "This is a democratic country but I hope the party and BN will let me stand again in Labis."

While Pakatan-based parties are known to spew rhetoric and shout even louder as the general election approach without carrying programmes or services for the constituencies, Tee Yong reiterated BN's and MCA's commitment to the rakyat. "I won't take votes as automatic unlike DAP which takes Chinese votes as automatic and does not need to do anything even if laws infringe the rights of the non-Muslim community."
Taking pod-shots at DAP's method of carrying out its election campaign, the Central Committee member informed the press corp with a tinge of sarcasm that "DAP is so quiet. They know non-Muslims will support them. So, theer is no need to work and all they do is just publicity."
Also present at the press conference were office bearers from the Selangor MCA state liaison committee.
