DAP campaign manager deals party state secretary fresh blow
GEORGE TOWN: A campaign manager from DAP's Pulau Tikus constituency delivered a parting shot to the party's state secretary after resigning from his post.
Lai Hon Meng said although his resignation on Monday was not linked to any recent happenings, he was unhappy with comments made by party secretary Ng Wei Aik about Pulau Tikus assemblyman Koay Teng Hai in a Chinese daily on Nov 21.
"Ng stated that Koay's absence had caused the state government to nearly fail passing a constitution amendment which could have allowed our opponent to throw us out with a no-confidence motion," he said in his Facebook post.
The Anti-Hopping Bill was nevertheless passed on Nov 1 as 27 of the other 28 Pakatan assemblymen were present to vote for it while four of the 11 opposition members who were in the House at that time abstained.
Koay was reprimanded by the party's disciplinary committee for his absence from state assembly sitting from Nov 1 to 9 when the Bill was tabled. He was absent as he was in the United States to observe the presidential election on Nov 6.
Lai said Ng should focus on party matters instead of putting all his "energy" on Koay.
Lai reiterated his stance that he resigned from his post to give Koay space to restructure his election machinery in the constituency.
When contacted, Koay declined to comment while Ng said what Lai had stated was his own interpretation.
