Previous events prove PAS lying in claiming that hair salon by-laws not meant for Muslims
Hadi Awang's excuse that the Kota Bharu Municipal Council by laws were not meant to be expanded and implemented on non-Muslims (Malaysiakini, 27 November 2012) is an outright lie because PAS has been in power in Kelantan since 1991, and should have practised as such since 21 years ago. If PAS-held state governments in Kelantan, Kedah and previously Terengganu would never would have subjected non-Muslims to by-laws like:
Kelantan examples
- Why did the Pasir Puteh Land and District Office issue a show cause letter against SJKC Khai Chih for hosting a mid autumn festival as they deemed the Chinese primary school to have flouted the Entertainment Outlets and Control of Entertainment Enactment 1998.
- MPKB raided and issued summons to bookshops and a restaurant for selling licenced lottery tickets
- MPKB fined a hair salon owner whose female Muslim employee wore three-quartre sleeves were MPKB considered as not-long enough and thus indecent
- Gender segregation in cinemas, check out counters at supermarkets,
Kedah examples
The experiences of non-Muslins in Kedah also contradict Hadi Awang's statement:
- The state government demolished the sole swine abattoir.
- The Kubang Pasu District Council banned liquor and refuses to renew liquor licenses
- In December 2011, the Kulim District Office instructed that all liquor licences will be terminated effective July 2012. 100-odd operators were affected by this order to turn Kulim alcohol-free.
Terenganu examples from 1999 to 2004
Hadi Awang should look at his own backyard and see how his current press statement is totally incongruous with PAS hudud enactments, gazettes which were introduced during his one-term reign as Menteri Besar from 1999 to 2004.
- In 1999, the state legislative assembly passed the Terengganu Syariah Criminal Law (Hudud and Qisas) Enactment 2002 which was even enforceable on non-Muslims
- The PAS state government gazetted the demolition of the over 100-year-old Hainan Thean Hou Kong temple and land seizure on 13 February 2003 to convert it into a public park despite vehement objections from the temple's owners and adherents.
- Licenced betting outlets suffered closure
- Proposal for gender-separate swimming pools at hotels
