Small credit, big hope MCA loan for beauty salon operator
A HOUSEWIFE beamed with pride after she received a RM15,000 cheque on behalf of her daughter from the Penang MCA under the 1MCA Micro-Credit Scheme for Youth.
Koay Kooi Lan, 55, who received the cheque on behalf of Tan Hoey Theng, 31, said it had always been her dream to see her daughter become an entrepreneur.
She said Hoey Theng, who operates a beauty salon in Sungai Ara, ventured into business last year.
"With this loan, my daughter can now take up an advanced course in cosmetology.
"We will always support her. She is really passionate about this," said Koay.
The proud mother said that Hoay Theng could not make it to the function as she had a business appointment.
Koay received the cheque yesterday from state MCA organising secretary Tan Lai Theng at the party headquarters in Penang.
Also present were Penang MCA assistant secretary Ooi Chuan Aik, Bayan Baru Barisan Nasional coordinator Por Joo Tee and Pengkalan Kota Barisan coordinator Loke Poh Chye.
Lai Theng said youths who needed money to be used as start-up capital for their business venture or to expand their business should grab the opportunity by applying for loans.
"We believe there are many people out there who need such loans but they do not know about our loan scheme.
"We are here to help them build their own career.
"But their companies must first be registered with the Companies Commission of Malaysia," he said.
He added that loan applicants must also be a member of Koperasi Jayadiri Malaysia Berhad.
He said successful applicants could take up a maximum loan of RM20,000 with a 4% interest rate per annum.
"The scheme is open to all races aged between 21 and 45.
"They must earn a minimum RM1,500 monthly," he said.
