Lim: It’s easy to identify BR1M cheats and they’ll be nabbed

MALAYSIANS should not try to cheat their way into getting more cash aid by applying for the Bantuan Rakyat 1Malaysia (BR1M) 2.0 many times and from different areas, said Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Donald Lim.

He said the Government was able to detect the cheats.

He said there was a case where the same person applied for cash aid in different states but was caught as the ministry traced it through his identity card number.

"If you are entitled, you can only apply once," Lim told reporters at Parliament lobby yesterday.

He said those who received the aid last year need not apply again as the ministry had their records.

"We expect a 10% increase in the number of applicants this time. Last year 4.35 million out of 5.2 million households were approved for the aid," Lim said, adding that RM2.15bil was handed out last year.

Registration for the BR1M will start on Nov 1.

Application forms can be downloaded from the Inland Revenue Board website www.hasil.gov.my.

The disbursement for the BR1M will begin in January next year.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, in his Budget 2013 proposals, extended the aid under BR1M 2.0 with a cash handout of RM250 to single, unmarried individuals aged 21 and above, who less than RM2,000 a month.
