Harakah misses the point on MCA's objections against Nik Aziz's rape exhortations
HarakahDaily/en online (30 Oct 2012) in defence of PAS spiritual adviser Dato' Seri Nik Aziz's advice on dress as directed only at Muslim women appears to deliberately skip the main point which MCA's objects to, i.e. his exhortation to rape women who are deemed to not have fully covered up.
MCA completely opposes sexual violence against women irrespective of faith, and this include Muslim women. Women folk, irrespective of the clothes they wear have a right to protection from sex predators. Raping women is a gender issue, and should not be confused nor politicised as a religious issue.
The HarakahDaily/en online explanation fails to address these issues associated rape (the act), politicians holding exalted government posts candidly imploring the rape of women, and the horrors which rape victims suffer and endure through. On the contrary, HarakahDaily/en online has indirectly given the leeway for voyeurs and perverts to violate, assault women sexually.
Permit me to reiterate: MCA is not anti-Islam, a sacred religion which our party holds the highest respect for. Our party opposes PAS hudud law.
We are alarmed with the youtube video which clearly depicts PAS spiritual adviser Dato' Seri Nik Aziz in one of his ceramah openly advocates rape against women who did not "tutup aurat", and thus are considered to have attired indecently by not covering up enough. In the youtube video, the Kelantan Menteri Besar can unequivocally be heard encouraging and justifying rape: "perempuan tidak tutup aurat padan muka kena rogol" and "dia dok jual murah-murah, betis dia, muka dia, peha dia. Rogol, lah!"
Furthermore, HarakahDaily/en online's defence comes close to two years since the video controversy first unfurled. This suggests that their reply is only an afterthought to appease non-Muslim voters and divert attention away from the issue of rape implorations in wake of public backlash after MCA originally highlighted the video.
