It’s all child’s play at theme park
Fun in a cup: Some pupils, given a sneak preview of the Puteri Harbour Indoor Theme Park, having fun on a Hello Kitty tea cup ride.
NUSAJAYA: It will be paradise on earth for the little ones as the likes of Hello Kitty, Bob the Builder, Barney, Thomas & Friends, Pingu and Angelina Ballerina will greet them at Puteri Harbour Indoor Theme Park soon.
The RM115mil theme park, which is slated to open its doors by year end, will also offer rides and live performances by the popular characters.
It will feature the first Sanrio Hello Kitty Town in the world outside of Japan.
Other than a chance to take pictures with their favourite characters, the young fans can also head to a souvenir shop to purchase unique merchandise.
State Tourism and Domestic Trade Committee chairman Hoo Seong Chang said the theme park and Legoland Malaysia, which opened on Sept 16, would boost tourist arrivals here.
"Legoland has managed to attract about 10,000 tourists daily. We expect the number to go up with the opening of the Puteri Harbour Indoor Theme Park before the end of the year."
Hoo said that at least 10 theme parks would open in Johor including in Desaru, Mount Austin and Nusajaya in the next few years.
"We hope to attract groups from China, India, Australia, Brunei and the Middle East in future," he said, adding that most visitors were currently from Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand.
Malaysian Tourist Guides Council president Jimmy Leong noted that Legoland had attracted hordes of families and young people.
"There are now more and more groups planning day trips here just to visit the place," he said.
"In the past, we have always been second to the vibrant attractions in Singapore. The opening of theme parks here will create positive competition."
