Kong: Runway blackout at KKIA will be investigated
PETALING JAYA: The blackout at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport runway will be thoroughly investigated, said Transport Minister Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha.
"I am extremely upset over the whole situation that has caused a lot of anger among passengers who have planned to celebrate their long Hari Raya Haji weekend with their families and loved ones," he said in a statement yesterday.
Kong said stern action would be taken against the careless party, whoever they might be.
"If the investigations show elements of sabotage, a police report would be made and the case will then be handled by the police," he said.
"No one will be spared based on the findings of the investigation," he said.
Kong also urged the airport operator to ensure Emergency Response Plans were in place so that such an occurrence is not repeated.
Malaysia Airports Holding Berhad said 51 flights (diversions, delays and cancellations) and about 6,000 passengers were affected.
