Adapt to be competitive

PEKAN: The people should adapt quickly to the fast changing environment of today's world to remain competitive, Sultan Pahang Sultan Ahmad Shah said.
Sultan Ahmad Shah said only by equipping themselves with the necessary skills and knowledge could they face the onslaught of global challenges.
"At the same time, good noble values must not be neglected and should be instilled in their daily lives and all members of the family.
"Having mutual respect for one another is important to ensure a continuous peaceful and harmonious society," he said in his speech during the investiture ceremony held in conjunction with his 82nd birthday at Istana Abu Bakar here.
Accompanying him were his consort Sultanah Kalsom, Pahang Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob, Tengku Mahkota Tengku Abdullah and Tengku Puan Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah.
Also present were Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai, Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk S.K. Devamany, Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Khalid Abu Bakar and other dignitaries.
During the ceremony, Chief Justice Tun Arifin Zakaria and Transport Minister Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha were among the recipients who were conferred the Sri Sultan Ahmad Shah Pahang (SSAP) award which carries the title Datuk Seri.
Sultan Ahmad Shah also reminded the people to strengthen relationship and remain united so that the country could continue to enjoy prosperity.
"I am happy to note that the administration of the state is running smoothly and various transformation programmes and projects are being implemented for the benefit of the people.
"The poor and needy must continue to be given priority and assistance by the government," he said.
In his pledge of allegiance, Adnan praised Sultan Ahmad Shah for having the people's welfare at heart.
"On four occasions, the state ruler took time off to inspect the upgrading of three broken bridges in Sungei Lembing to ensure it is safe to use.
"He is truly the royal chief engineer of all engineers," he said.
Meanwhile, the youngest SSAP award recipient – Negri Sembilan MCA Youth leader Datuk Seri Dr Lim Chin Fui – expressed his gratitude to Sultan Ahmad Shah for conferring him the title.
"I have high respect for the state ruler as he looks after the welfare of all his subjects.
"Sultan Ahmad Shah is an icon of unity and a father figure," he said in an interview.
Dr Lim, 33, is also the managing director of Seng Group of Companies founded in Mentakab, Pahang in 1970 with investments in Australia, China, the Philippines and Indonesia.
In 2007, he was awarded the Junior Chamber International Malaysia's Creative Young Entrepreneur Award.
Presently, he is active in non-governmental organisations and politics with various positions including Teluk Kemang MCA Youth vice-chairman, Negri Sembilan MCA Youth treasurer and technology development council chairman, Federation of Malaysian Clans and Guilds Youth Associations deputy president and Port Dickson Youth Association chairman.
