Bonding at mega dinner

Shaking hands: Liow greeting guests at the dinner in Kampar.

ABOUT 6,000 people attended MCA's mega dinner themed "Stability Above Chaos" in Kampar.

Guests arrived as early as 6pm at the Kampar district field last Saturday to mingle with local party leaders and friends while waiting for the arrival of the guest of honour Health Minister and MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.

A group of young people also took the opportunity to pose for group photographs with MCA Youth deputy chairman Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon.

Kampar MP Datuk Lee Chee Leong, who is also Deputy Home Minister, was also given the same "celebrity" treatment.

In his speech, Dr Mah said Kampar had gone through tremendous change in recent years.

The state executive councillor said Kampar residents were lucky to have a representative like Lee.

"There has been so much development here.

"I am confident that in another five to 10 years, Kampar will be further developed," Dr Mah said while stressing the importance for the people to show their support for Lee.

He added that it would be best for Kampar if the people chose assemblymen who could work hand-in-hand with Lee.

At present, the Keranji state seat is held by DAP's Chan Fook Chye while the Malim Nawar state seat is occupied by DAP turned Barisan Nasional-friendly assemblyman Keshvinder Singh.

Urging the people to think carefully before casting their votes in the coming general election, Dr Mah said stability was important for development.

"The people should evaluate for themselves on what is best for the country," he said.

Lee, in his speech, also urged the people to support Barisan to ensure a better future for the country.

"Let's support Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak who will only bring us to greater heights.

"He is fair to all and will ensure that the people benefit from a prosperous nation," he added.

Speaking to the crowd later, Liow said stability was important for the development of any country.

"Let's look at China, it is not chaotic but is stable and has progressed so much over the years.

"Their leaders are also united, which can only benefit the nation," he said.

Liow said the majority of people only wanted to see their country being stable and developed, adding that only Barisan could continue to provide a better future for Malaysia and its people.

"Barisan already has plans to bring the country forward and only it has the necessary experience to do so.

"If a country is weak, the people will be affected," he added.

A total of RM180,000 was raised during the dinner. MCA later distributed the money to 10 primary and secondary schools in Kampar for their education fund.
