Traffic police counters to open till midnight

Anxious motorists in Kuching wait their turn at a counter of the citys traffic police division. Bernama picKUALA LUMPUR, Feb 28 Traffic police will open their counters until midnight tonight to allow traffic offenders to pay their summonses.The police media centre said in a text message to Bernama that the summonses can be paid at all traffic counters and district police headquarters nationwide.Today is the final day for the public to pay their summonses, failing which they will be blacklisted, starting tomorrow.The Cabinet on August 11 last year decided to give a grace period to allow blacklisted motorists to renew their licences and road taxes.Those who were issued with summonses before December 1 are eligible for a 50 per cent discount.Meanwhile, long queues were the order of the day as those with outstanding summonses flocked to the Post Office and traffic police counters in the capital city to pay their summonses.However, many of them were told that these counters had run out of queue numbers, causing rumblings of dissatisfaction.At the Jalan Bandar police traffic counters, the queue numbers were all taken up as early as 10.30am while many of those who came at the Bukit Aman counters were still unable to pay their summonses at 3pm despite coming as early as 8.30am.Jalan Bandar Traffic officer ASP Azhari Chik told Bernama when contacted that only 800 queue numbers were issued today because those were the amount the counters were able to process today.If we give more than 800, then we may not be able to process all, even if we stayed up until tomorrow, he said.One of those in the queue was Zukhairi Ismail, 29, an assistant administrative officer.He told Bernama that he made his way to the payment counter at the last minute because of the discount offered and that he had just received his salary.What can I do ...
