Burn ? They wanted you die lah ... and you know that. By G Vinod KUALA LUMPUR: S Samy Vellu, who is in the final lap of his MIC presidency, has revealed that certain quarters desired to witness the incineration of the party. And this was the reason behind him naming current deputy president G Palanivel as his successor, and vice-president Dr S Subramaniam as the next number two. This, Samy Vellu added, would ensure a smooth transition in MIC, which he had led for three decades. Without revealing names, he said: "Some people want to see our peaceful house (MIC) razed.” “So I named them (Palanivel and Subramaniam) as leaders to ensure that does not happen," he told reporters at the sidelines of a function here. The former works minister also advised the incoming top leaders not to heed the “negative voices” and focus on their work. "As party leaders, you must not listen to them and put party interests first," he stressed. MIC is strongest Meanwhile, the MIC president ...

Najib dismisses Dr M’s concerns about 100-storey project By Yow Hong Chieh November 30, 2010 Najib said Warisan Merdeka is a long-term project. — File pic KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 30 — The prime minister today brushed aside Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s misgivings about Warisan Merdeka and argued for the project to be judged on a long-term basis instead. Former PM Dr Mahathir said yesterday that the construction of the proposed 100-storey tower at the heart of the Warisan Merdeka could cause a property glut in the capital. Dr Mahathir, who in his 22-year tenure championed mega projects like the Petronas Towers — once the world’s tallest buildings — had also said Kuala Lumpur was “quite near” a Dubai-style property bubble. The emirate saw its property market collapse in 2008 after years of fevered building driven by easy credit due to intense investor speculation. “...

KUALA LUMPUR - MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek reminded the people not to have any thoughts of changing what had been written in the Federal Constitution as only the Yang di-Pertuan Agong can change it. He said many people had misunderstood the real meaning of 1 Malaysia, the concept introduced by the prime minister. “1 Malaysia means the government will treat all the citizens fairly and equally according to what is provided in the constitution. You cannot run away from the constitution,” he said in his speech when meeting his Facebook fans at the Tropicana Golf Club and Resort here tonight. Under the constitution, Dr Chua said, all Malaysians had the right to education, and cultural and religious freedom. “Although the Chinese are citizens, in Malaysia they are not assimilated like those in Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines. “You maintain your Chinese name, you ...
