Statement by MCA President Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek on Lahad Datu invasion

The MCA would like to put on record our gratitude to the police, the armed forces and the maritime authorities for a job well done in ensuring our shores are protected from the forces of terrorism.

We would also like to pay tribute to the patriots of our nation who have fearlessly fought the armed intruders so that our honour and sovereignty is protected.

Our heartfelt sympathies go to the bereaved family of our heroes who have sacrificed their lives so that other Malaysians are kept safe from the threat of the terrorists.

The MCA will also donate RM2,000 to the families of each security personnel killed as a token of gratitude. Our hearts are with the families who are grieving over their loved ones who died in the battlefield while defending the nation.

While our patriots are defending the nation's shores, we have politicians among us, who instead of condemning the foreign intrusion, are making unfounded accusations and politicising the issue.

It is time of crisis that we see the true colour of these politicians who used act of terrorism by foreign forces to score political points.

We should instead give blessings and support to our brave men from the security forces. It is not about politics but about protecting our nation's sovereignty.

These politicians, in particular Tian Chua, have gone overboard and infringed the perimeters of social decorum by stooping so low. There is no room for unfounded accusations or contemptuous and callous remarks.

Let us hope Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will explain to all Malaysians that he is not involved as alleged by some foreign press. This is a serious case of invasion of terrorists on our heartland and lives are lost.

To those who put their nation first for the sake of protecting the sovereignty of the nation, they are the exemplary Malaysians who deserved top honours of respect and gratitude from us as Malaysians.

Likewise, we must remind ourselves not to take peace for granted. A nation that is disunited gives rise to social unrest and economic doldrums and uncertainties.

Our hearts and prayers are with our uniformed men who are still in Lahad Datu to drive out our enemies. Each one of them deserves the badge of honour.

Let us pray for peace to prevail always, MCA believes that stability above chaos is of paramount importance.

Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek
