Govt to provide aid for orang asli community
MENTAKAB: The Government will not neglect the rights and welfare of the orang asli, Mentakab assemblyman Datuk Chuah Boon Seong said.
Chuah said various assistance in the form of cash and kind including special allocations had been allocated to improve their living condition.
"In fact, the Orang Asli Affairs Department has been renamed Orang Asli Development Department to reflect the Government's aspirations to bring more development to the indigenous groups in tandem with the nation's growth.
"Every year, a substantial amount has been set aside to build proper houses and improve the basic amenities for the benefit of the community," he said after attending a gathering with orang asli villagers in Kampung Paya Mengkuang here recently.

Chuah urged orang asli villagers not to be influenced by certain quarters that their rights were being eroded, but instead to continue supporting the Government.
During the event, several villagers requested for Wi-Fi services to be made available in the village to aid their children in their studies.
Chuah said he would look into the request and would meet with Telekom Malaysia to find out the status.
"The community is now more aware of the importance of ICT and many of their children are familiar with the Internet," he said, adding that the availability of Wi-Fi services would help bridge the digital gap among rural and urban areas.
Some 200 villagers attended the gathering which also saw many of them undergoing medical checks on their sugar level, blood pressure and body mass index.
The medical checks were carried out for the first time with the cooperation of Sanggang Health Clinic, and 1MCA Foundation.
