Kuantan independent school is for the benefit for the Chinese community, Dong Zong should not be too narrow minded
Dong Zong deputy chairman Chow Siew Hon should avoid looking at the Kuantan Chinese independent school issue too narrowly, and he should instead be more optimistic and adopt a more open mind.
Under the Education Act 1961, schools with Malay as the medium of instruction were known as national secondary schools while schools with English as the medium of instruction were known as national-type secondary schools. For secondary schools which use other languages as their medium of instruction, they were known as independent secondary schools.
From having 60 independent schools before this, the fact that the Ministry of Education has approved an increase in the number of Chinese independent schools is a huge breakthrough for the Chinese community, and this is good news. Since this is the first time that the Education Ministry has approved the setting up of a Chinese independent school, Dong Zong should be happy and accept this fact instead of speaking nonsense.
We should instead work together to ensure a smooth start up to the new Chinese independent school in Pahang for the future of our children, so that they can have more choices offered to them in the education field.
All MCA wants is to see the success of the Kuantan Chinese independent school, and MCA and the Chinese community in Pahang will never sell out on Chinese education, let alone allow it to disappear, and it is hoped that all quarters may work together for the well-being of Chinese education.
