PERKASA should not insult other races for his own political benefits

The actions of Pribumi Perkasa Negara (PERKASA) Dato' Ibrahim Ali in giving out money in white envelopes during their Chinese New Year open house is disrespectful against Chinese culture and its customs. There should be zero tolerance against any extremist statements or actions by any organization and should be dealt with immediately.

Malaysia is a multiracial country. We must work to ensure that our country practices the policy of inclusiveness, where all races are able to participate and share in the nation's development and construction. However, certain organizations have made extremist statements which are completely ignorant of the sensitivities of the Chinese community.

Dato' Ibrahim Ali, being a Member of Parliament, should act in the people's interests and understand our multicultural society, and the taboos and prohibitions of each ethnicity and religion of his constituents whom he is supposed to represent.

It is unacceptable to merely profess ignorance as an excuse. If he had chosen to appreciate our country's cultural diversity, then he would have known that white 'ang pows' are meant for funerals while red 'ang pows' are given during weddings and joyous celebrations. 

This is not the first time PERKASA and its president, Ibrahim Ali, has insulted the other races of Malaysia. They have undermined ethnic relations instead of helping to strengthen and foster it, and their actions are liable to provoke the emotions of others.  

As the year 2020 looms into view, Malaysia must implement the practice of moderate policies and equality so as to obtain the support of all races and ethnicities in order to achieve the nation's goals. Actions such as those of Ibrahim Ali however, undermine the concept of a moderate Malaysia in exchange for his own political gain.
