Penang Pakatan mocks its own principles

Bozo politicians and bozo communications

Making a mockery of the constitution has been a constant of 40 years of Umno-BN rule. Now the Penang Pakatan Rakyat has gone down the same path by doing a con job with high-minded talk about rule of law but at the same time blatantly flouting rule of law by publishing party propaganda in a State Government brochure.

Will this official state government brochure, championing the cause of a political party, now be distributed to all State Assemblymen so that they may inform their constituents?

The very opening words speak of a Pakatan Rakyat people-centric government. Who published this brochure? The publicity office of Pakatan Rakyat? No. The office of the State Secretary. Is he an employee of Pakatan Rakyat? No. His office is part of the system of constitutional governance. Is he treated that way in this brochure? No, he is treated like a division of the Pakatan Rakyat marketing department.

And the same thinking applies to the use of the States coat-of-arms and flag. Constitutional symbols have been turned into marketing merchandise for Penang Pakatan Rakyat.

What role do Pakatan Rakyat leaders have in the government of the state of Penang? Answer: Nothing.

What do the elections of 2008 have to do with the state government? Answer: nothing.

Penang Pakatan Rakyat turns our parliamentary system upside down by stating the elections brought in the PR government and ignoring the fact that under our system, individual members of the assembly are elected, not parties. That no government was brought in, only different politicians at the helm. That the government in the form of the Governor, the caretaker executive council, and the administrative e! stablish ement did not go away?

They must have consulted bozos for constitutional expertise instead of their own respected leaders.

And when they also talk of cronies, it raises an obvious question: which of their cronies got the job of creating and printing this brochure?

What Penang Pakatan Rakyat have done is similar to the signboards put up by Works Ministry and JKR trumpeting Satu lagi Projek Kerajaan Barisan Nasional. That is already a truly subversive act: it subverts the peoples thinking, and encourages disrespect for the constitution, and the rule of law.

For that alone, Works Ministers and JKR director-generals should have been charged under the Sedition Act.

The con job by Penang Pakatan Rakyat is worse because the brochure talks of full observance of rule of law, upholding justice, freedom, truth, of empowering the people with knowledge, fundamental rights, basic freedoms and responsibilities. And the very brochure itself disregarding the fine principles being upheld.

Constitutional governance and respect for rule of law must be based on truth, not marketing platitudes. Rule of law cannot get re-established by turning out a piece of trickery. The Penang Pakatan Rakyat brochure insults the very principles that it lauds and the people who entrusted them with the reins of power.

It is a crying shame that a party which has such well-respected experts as Karpal Singh and Tunku Abdul Aziz should then turn out such a rank, foul piece smelling of trickery, if not corruption.
