Dewan Negara: Socso Sells Shares In Carlsberg

The Senate was informed that the Social Security Organisation (Socso) had recently sold all its equity holdings in the hard drink producing company, Carlsberg Brewery Malaysia Berhad (Carlsberg).

The Minister of Human Resources, Datuk Dr S. Subramaniam, said the shares were sold following the decision of Socso to dispose off such shares in April.

"Currently, Socso does not have any equity in the company although it is true that it had purchased the company's shares in the past," he said when winding up the debate on the 10th Malaysia Plan with regard to his ministry in the Dewan Negara Wednesday.

e said this when replying to a question from Senator Mumtaz Md. Nawi who asked the ministry to give clarification whether Socso still had equity holdings in the company during the debate session earlier.

Subramaniam also said that Socso would no longer buy shares of companies which were carrying out business activities prohibited by religion such as liquor and gambling in future
