Pakatan’s promises look good on paper, but are they pragmatic enough to be fulfilled?

Pakatan's promises look good on paper, but are they pragmatic enough to be fulfilled?

Pakatan's recent election manifesto is an exaggeration and it is illogical for all these promises to be implemented. Even in Selangor, where Pakatan has been the state government for 5 years, their promises still remain unfulfilled and some have even bounced back right into their faces.

While Pakatan makes a big fuss over this Manifesto Rakyat of theirs, Pakatan would do better to focus on implementing their 2008 election promises first instead of making new ones to the people who balloted filled with expectations but were let down by Pakatan's empty words.

Seeing that even their 2008 election pledges have yet to be fulfilled, it is thus obvious that this new manifesto is nothing but election goodies and it is doubtful that they can commit to these new vows as well.

No increase in government revenue

While Pakatan's new manifesto promises to recognize the UEC, provide free education and abolish the PTPTN, and lower oil prices, electricity charges and water tariffs in order to ease the people's burden, we must be aware that there is no increase in the government's revenue. Where will Pakatan get the money to implement all these promises? These are questions which must be asked by the public.

Despite being in power for 5 years now, there are still promises made by Pakatan which have yet to be completed and are still on the drawing board!

Below is a list of 10 failed promises by Pakatan:

(1) Selangor's promise to reduce assessment rates by 20%? Unfulfilled!

(2) Selangor's promise of allowances for single mothers? Unfulfilled, and the Selangor state government is now being sued instead!

(3) Selangor's promise to resolve the high voltage cable problem in Rawang within 100 days? Still unfulfilled, even after 5 years!

(4) Free water in Selangor? High rise residents excluded from receiving this benefit!

(5) Abolishing the Sungai Nyior toll in Penang? Nothing but talk!

(6) Promising to abolish parking fees in Penang? People still have to pay for parking, even at night!

(7) Pakatan's promise to preserve Kampung Buah Pala? Demolished right after the elections!

(8) Despite demolishing the sole boar abattoir in Kedah 4 years ago, there are still no plans for its reconstruction!

(9) Selangor's promise of financial assistance for pre-school education, college students, senior citizens and disabled people? Still unfulfilled!

(10) Selangor promised to lower residential assessment rates and to help young people own homes? People still have to pay the 20% assessment rates!

Thus, it is better for Pakatan to deliver these above-listed pledges first. They should not simple focus on winning the federal government by blindly making promises without considering whether these promises can be fulfilled or not. Doing so will destroy the future of the rakyat and leaving the nation in a state of bankruptcy.
