PKNS comes under fire

SHAH ALAM: The Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS)has come under fire after a project to build affordable apartments has gone "high-cost".

Sekretariat Orang Muda Selangor (Serang) chairman Budiman Mohd Zohdi said PKNS was currently constructing 60 units of affordable apartments at Jalan Pinang Raja 18/2, Section 18 in Shah Alam.

However, after construction began, he alleged that the status of the project was changed to "high-cost" apartments.

"A signboard was erected at the construction site, saying that the project was to build high-cost 13-storey apartments.

"The sign was put up next to the original signboard that said the project was to construct medium-cost apartments," Budiman claimed during a press conference at the Karnival Sayangi Selangor in I-City here yesterday.

He urged the Selangor government to offer an explanation for the change.

"When we called the number on the signboard, we found out that the apartments, to be launched in February, were expected to be priced from RM430,000 each," said Budiman, adding that this was beyond the means of many prospective buyers, especially youth.

Meanwhile at the carnival, Selangor MCA chief Datuk Donald Lim said he hoped it would be a yearly event.

"Even though we are not the state government, Barisan Nasional will continue to fight for the rights of the people. I hope the people will support Barisan.

"We guarantee that we can do better than them (the Opposition)," he said.
