Kar Huah opts out of GE13
GEORGE TOWN: Penang MCA adviser Datuk Koay Kar Huah (pic) has opted out as a candidate for the coming general election, saying it is time to give the younger leaders a chance.
Koay, who is also the Bukit Gelugor Barisan Nasional coordinator and the MCA division head, said the young are raring for a chance to serve the community.
"The party should have younger leaders to lead the way," he said.
Despite ruling himself out, Koay said he would continue to serve the party as long as he could.
Earlier, during the Bukit Gelugor MCA dinner, Koay emphasised the importance of unity within a party and called on the members to be more aggressive in carrying out their duties.
"If we can work hard and be united on all fronts, we can win back Penang."
During the dinner, Koay also gave recognition to the division treasurer Wong Kok Wai, for his four years of service as the welfare officer.
The division also gave out RM200 each to members whose babies were born in the year of the Dragon.
