Financial aid offered to tide dad over

GEORGE TOWN: Donors have come forward, offering a monthly allowance to help the man who chained his children in the bathroom.

Bagan Barisan Nasional coordinator David Chua said the money could be used to hire a childminder.

"Some donors who want to remain anonymous have offered financial assistance. I've informed the family and it's up to them to accept," Chua, who is also Bagan MCA Youth division head, said.

He added that the father needed to be counselled and Barisan would see how it could assist him.

"Instead of penalising the father who is already depressed, we want to ensure that he has access to professional counselling to get his family life back on track."

Chua said a relative had claimed that their mother would return soon, adding that the man should be released.

"We cannot interfere with the police investigations but the man needs to get back to work so that he can continue providing for the family."

Chua, Bagan MCA division deputy chief and Sungai Puyu Barisan coordinator Sum Yoo Keong, state MIC Youth chief J. Dhinagaran and Seberang Jaya Hospital Board of Visitors chairman Abdul Hamid visited the children at the hospital yesterday.

Meanwhile, the Royal Thai Consulate in Penang has offered to help locate the missing Thai mother of the two children.
