DAP’s intervention in the administration of Penang is eroding the state’s power
Press Statement by Wanita MCA Penang State Liaison Chairman Sdri Tan Cheng Liang
DAP's intervention in the administration of Penang is eroding the state's power
DAP Secretary-General and Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng's silence over the issue where DAP National Chairman Karpal Singh had asked for Penang Deputy Chief Minister II Dr P Ramasamy to resign is akin to the ostrich mentality of hiding its head whenever a problem arises.
As National Chairman of DAP, Karpal Singh has made his position very clear, that is he wishes Ramasamy to resign as DCM II of Penang, but Lim Guan Eng, who has yet to respond to the issue of allegations of corruption among Penang Pakatan Rakyat state assemblymen as it might reflect badly on his administration, tries to avoid responding to the issue.
In any incident involving the Penang state government, Lim Guan Eng has the responsibility to give an explanation to the people of Penang as their Chief Minister. He must immediately provide a clarification after the incident and explain the circumstances surrounding it. The people believe that Karpal Singh and Seri Delima assemblyman RSN Rayer will not make any accusations without proof, and Ramasamy's speech has also clearly pointed out that DAP and the Penang state government are involved in corruption. Therefore, Lim Guan Eng's silence on the issue makes it seem like something is wrong.
Why is it that Karpal Singh, who has nothing to do with the Penang state government, can determine that Ramasamy should resign from his position? Karpal Singh's interference in the operation of the state's administration is irrational and cannot be accepted, and it also proves that the Penang state government cannot make decisions independently as the decision-makers are outside from the state's control.
We must remind Lim Guan Eng that it is the time for him to respond and to explain to the people how he is going to handle the situation. This is because it is not just an internal dispute within DAP, but more importantly, it involves the administration of the state which will affect the people of Penang.
I hope that Lim Guan Eng will not evade and ignore the seriousness of this problem. Wanita MCA Penang will not sit quietly by and we will remind Lin Guan Eng from time to time that he must provide an explanation for the sake of the people.
