KUALA LUMPUR: This Christmas, the country's leaders spread the word of joy and happiness, urging the people to stick together through thick and thin.

MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek wished all Malaysians a Merry Christmas, calling it a day to rejoice with fellow neighbours, friends and colleagues.

He urged Malaysians to interact and share the abundance of goodwill, fellowship and shower people with the blessings in the true Christmas spirit of caring, sharing and merriment.

"Every festival in Malaysia is a festivity for all as the country is a melting pot of culture, faith and traditions."

Gerakan president Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon urged Malaysians to set aside their differences and to love their neighbours.

He also urged leaders at various levels of society to continue efforts to promote better understanding and compassion in their daily life.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department and MIC president Senator Datuk G. Palanivel posted Christmas and New Year greetings on his Facebook page and called on all to appreciate and reflect on the peace and harmony in the country.

Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Sarawak, Tun Abang Muhamad Salahuddin Abang Barieng, said people should take note of the unrest in some countries and compare it with the stable political climate of Malaysia.

"Without unity, there will not be political stability, which is the main thrust to achieving a better standard of living," he said in his Christmas message.
