Karpal Singh frozen out by DAP for saying non-Muslims can be Prime Minister
DAP chairman Karpal Singh is being frozen out by DAP as his comments are not even supported by his own party which in typical fashion, has reduced his remarks to being his own 'personal opinion.'
Karpal Singh had previously pointed out that Article 43(7) of the Federal Constitution does not require the Prime Minister be a Malay or a Muslim, as religion and ethnicity will not be considered in any candidate's appointment.
Therefore his statement proposing Lim Guan Eng as Prime Minister was not exactly unjustified. However, not only did his comments not receive backing from his own party, Guan Eng even resorted to pointing his fingers at the media, blaming the latter for hyping this issue up.
Nevertheless, DAP leaders again turned a deaf ear to their chairman's remarks – proving that despite holding a prominent leadership post in the party, Karpal does not receive respect from his comrades.
Sec Gen overrules Chairman in DAP
Previously, Karpal Singh and Lim Guan Eng had made contradictory remarks on the candidates for Deputy Prime Minister. At that time, Karpal had named Lim Kit Siang and Hadi Awang simultaneously as candidates for Deputy Prime Minister but he was immediately rebuked by his Secretary General, who referred to that statement as Karpal's 'personal opinion'.
If all of Karpal Singh's comments are opinions, then what is the party's real stand? To this day, the fact that DAP has not properly addressed this matter proves that there arises internal conflicts within the party. If Putrajaya is their goal, then why do they need to avoid discussing on the candidacy for Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister? Isn't this very strange and peculiar of DAP?
DAP repeatedly brags about its accomplishments in Penang. The truth is, except for Penang, DAP has no control over the other states. It is outrageous for them to dream of holding any significant position within the Pakatan framework.
