Acrobatic show raises funds
BETTER days are ahead for the nine Chinese independent schools in Perak.
An acrobatic performance based on the famous 16th century Chinese folklore 'Journey to the West' successfully raised RM600,000 in Ipoh, last Thursday.
The amount will be equally divided among the schools.
There was further good news that night when MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek announced that the party would top up the donation with another RM600,000, bringing the total amount raised to RM1.2mil.

Dr Chua said the donation by MCA was a reflection of its commitment in helping the society.
He added that MCA members had also helped out by serving on the board of governors of most Chinese independent schools in the state.
"People like them are the silent majority who work hard behind the scenes to ensure that our mother tongue continues to flourish," said Dr Chua.
Also present was state executive councillor Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon, who presented a mock cheque for RM30,000, from the state government to the Council of Perak Chinese School Committees.
Senior citizen Liu Nam Chuan, 69, did not only enjoy the cultural show but was equally grateful for the funds raised.
Liu, who is Pei Yuan High School board of governors vice-chairman, said the money would help their school in Kampar to be better off, financially.
'Journey to the West' recounts the legendary adventure of Buddhist monk, Tang Sanzang, and his three disciples' from China to India in their quest to attain enlightenment.
The 90-minute show by the Guangzhou Acrobatic Troupe from China was held at the Stadium Indera Mulia to an audience of 2,500 people.
The troupe's 70 members performed various flying trapeze, trampoline and body contortion acts, much to the delight of the audience.
