Johor Tengku Mahkota Hits Out At Critics Of WWW 1 Bid

Johor Tengku Mahkota Tunku Ismail Idris ibni Sultan Ibrahim has hit out at critics, including former Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin, who said the RM520,000 bid by his father for the WWW 1 car number plate could be better spent.

Mohammad Nizar had posted three tweets Monday on the bid, with the first one saying the money could have been better spent on the people.

The tweet said: "RM520k bolih dibelanjakan membantu rakyat melayu Johor yg masih ramai miskin serta memerlukan bantuan utk kprluan hidup, bina 20 rumah PPRT!" (RM520,000 can be spent on poor Malays in Johor who need help to survive, and build 20 PPRT (Program Pembangunan Rakyat Termiskin) homes!)"

In a tweet posted under @HRHJohor2, Tunku Ismail said the Johor royal family did not take any money from the Government.

"The money allocated to my father and me every month as a Sultan and Tunku Mahkota is put into Yayasan Iskandar and Yayasan Ibrahim. The purpose of these foundatio! ns (Yaya san Iskandar and Yayasan Ibrahim) is for the Rakyat and to assist the Johor State Government," he tweeted Monday.

"I myself, since the time I was the Raja Muda, never took 1 cent from the Government till this very day. It's my rakyat's money. So before you open your mouth, do your research," he added.

The bidding for the highly-coveted "WWW" vehicle registration prefix started on April 30 and ended on May 14.
