Probe into food poisoning at school that left 120 pupils sick
KUALA LUMPUR: The Health Ministry has ordered a full investigation into the food poisoning incident involving nearly 120 primary school students in Muar.
Its Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said transport and storage methods would be looked into as well as other possible factors which could have led to the incident.
Nearly 120 pupils of SJK Chin Kwang Wahyu in Parit Jawa, Muar, came down with food poisoning, apparently after drinking some milk on Thursday.
The Year One to Year Six pupils were immediately treated by health teams from the Parit Jawa health clinic.
Most of the pupils were treated at the school although 30 were rushed to the Parit Jawa health clinic as they suffered from purging.
Liow said the party in charge of transporting the milk should be responsible as transporters sometimes appointed other parties to do the job.
The report on this will be concluded as soon as possible as too many students have fallen sick, Liow said during a press conference after opening the Federation of Hakka Associations of Malaysias annual general assembly here yesterday.
Liow said guilds and associations such as the Federation of Hakka Associations of Malaysia worked hard in strengthening bilateral ties between China and Malaysia.
These associations are patriotic as they put in a lot of hard work to help both countries maintain ties in important sectors such as education, medicine and business.
I will be going to China in October with federation officials to sign a memorandum of understanding for our Government to work with China on traditional and complementary medicine, Liow added.
