152 students receive advance from PTPTN

Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen handed out advance loan payments to 152 students from the National Higher Education Fund Corporation here.

She said the money would help new students with their preparations before the start of the new academic session.

The Government is mindful of the fact that new undergraduates need money to prepare for university. Successful PTPTN applicants will receive RM1,500 each, she said here yesterday.

Dr Ng, who is also Raub MP, said the Government placed a heavy emphasis on education and would readily spend money to nurture the countrys future leaders.

In several countries I visited, theyd rather spend their money on weapons but we are a peaceful nation, so a big chunk of the budget goes to education instead, she said.

During the event, Dr Ng also distributed Hari Raya cookies and duit raya from the Social Welfare Department to 96 needy folk.

People are still fighting in Syria while we are preparing to celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri. I urge everyone to defend this precious harmony multi-cultural Malaysia enjoys, she said.
