Route to nation building

They first met each other in Khuen Hean Chinese primary school in Changkat Kruing, Sitiawan almost four decades ago.

It was a touching moment when the duo met up again, during a talk at the SMJK Yuk Choy in Ipoh recently and recalled their good old days in the school.

Yuk Choy principal Lee Hah, who taught Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon at Khuen Hean, was proud to note that he was a model student and the best all-round student at the school.

Dr Mah, a cardiologist by training, also emerged the best all-round student at the Anglo Chinese School in Sitiawan where he completed his Upper Six.

At 46 now, the Chenderiang assemblyman and state executive councillor has this advice for the students in Yuk Choy: Cherish your teachers who had made an impact on your lives.

Citing Lee for instance, he said the educators dedication in teaching and guiding him had contributed to the person he is today.

Dr Mah also advised students to give their best in whatever they had been entrusted to do, pointing out that this would enable everyone to progress together and make the world a better place.

Meanwhile, Lee said that about 100 Form Four students attended the talk entitled Program Bicara Negara organised by the Perak Information Department.

He said the topics were Rukun Negara and the 1Malaysia concept.

He added that Yuk Choy was the first school in Perak to hold the programme, in conjunction with the National Day celebrations.

SMJK Yuk Choy Parent-Teacher Association chairman Dr Wan Azlan Sim Abdullah and the school board director Leong Foh Sen were also present at the event.
