Dont neglect other communities, race-based political parties told
Race-based political parties should not neglect the interests of other ethnic groups, MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek said.
Although MCA is a Chinese-based party, it also looks into the welfare of those in other communities, Dr Chua added.
Citing the 1MCA Medical Foundation as an example, Dr Chua said 25% of the RM2.5mil fund had been given out to Indian patients.
The MCA, he noted, was familiar with the plight of the Indians as the Chinese faced similar problems.
Both communities have problems related to the allocation of funds and scholarships, education and job opportunities in the public administration.
By helping the Indian community, MCA is proving that it cares for the other ethnic groups, he said during a dialogue with Indian leaders from non-governmental organisations at the Chang Lung Association here on Sunday.
Earlier during the dialogue, SJK (T) Gopeng Parent-Teacher Association chairman K. Rajandran sought Dr Chuas help to rebuild the 46-year-old school.
The single-storey building, Rajandran said, could not accommodate the schools rising student population.
He added that one of its classrooms had to be sealed off due to termite infestation, too.
