Fun movie night with the ladies

THEY may be from different parts of the world; but the one thing they have in common is the courage and strength to face the many challenges in life.

Perhaps this, had enabled the 150 single mothers watching the movie – The Lady — to relate to Aung San Suu Kyi — wife, mother and democracy and human rights fighter in Myanmar.

Sharing the movie with single mothers after the show, Perak Wanita MCA chairman Datuk Heng Seai Kie singled out the part where Aung San Suu Kyi gave up her last chance in life to meet her ailing husband in the UK for fear of not being able to return to her homeland to continue her struggles.

Sharing time: Heng (right) addressing the mothers who attended the special screening of the movie.

"Making difficult decisions is one of the many challenges in life.

"But we will be able to overcome them with determination and tenacity," she told some 300 women, including the single mothers, after the movie at TGV Kinta City, Ipoh last Saturday.

Perak-born Datuk Seri Michelle Yeoh played Aung San Suu Kyi, and the screening was organised by Perak Wanita MCA as part of its Mother's Day celebrations.

Heng, also Deputy Women, Family and Community Develop-ment Minister, said women who comprised 47.1% of the 12 mil registered voters in the country would help shape the country's destiny in the coming general election.
