Joy and relief for 28 families
Happiness for all: Kong (seventh from right) with the 28 Kampung Acheh families with their freehold land titles during the village's appreciation ceremony.
HOLDING their individual land titles, the 28 families in Kampung Acheh could not stop expressing their thanks to Lumut MP Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha.
Their spokesman Heng Soo Hooi said Kong had assisted them in their application last year, which led to them obtaining their official land titles after a 30-year wait.
"Words are not enough to express our thanks and joy.
"Hence, we, the residents, had decided to thank Kong by holding a feast in his honour," Heng said, during an appreciation lunch, which they hosted for Kong at the village last Sunday.
Heng related that he and the other 27 families had jointly bought a 2.8ha land at the village before subdividing it into 28 lots.
"Unfortunately, we were unable to convert the single land title into 28 individual titles.
"We approached the Land Office and made countless applications but then the problem dragged on for years.
"It was further delayed as some of the original buyers had died.
"It was not until Kong's help that we were finally successful," he added.
Kong, who is also Transport Minister, reminded the villagers of their responsibilities to fence up their respective plots of land and to keep their compounds clean, now that they had obtained the land titles.
