Sungai Ayer Tawar residents to get bridge

ROAD users travelling between Kampung Telok and Pantai Remis or Sitiawan will soon be able to cut their journey time by half.

Lumut MP Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha said construction of a 419m-long bridge over Sungai Ayer Tawar would commence by the end of next month.

"Road users will no longer need to drive all the way to Changkat Kruing to get to Kampung Telok from Pantai Remis or Sitiawan and viceversa, when the bridge is completed.

Convenient for residents: The proposed site of the RM20mil Sungai Ayer Tawar bridge that will extend from Kampung Baru (L) to Kampung Telok which would cut travelling time by half for motorists coming from Pantai Remis or Sitiawan.

"It should cut down their travelling time by at least an hour now that they can cross the river," he said in a press statement, adding that the project would be ready in about 30 months after the commencement date.

Kong, who is also Transport Minister, said the project was one of his promises to residents in the area.

"After many unsuccessful attempts to get the project approved, I finally brought the matter to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, who gave special approval for it.

"I am glad it can now be realised and the rakyat will benefit from it," he said, referring to the estimated 10,000 residents living in surrounding towns and villages.
