Come clean on kickback claims, Teo urged

PUTRAJAYA: Nibong Tebal MP Tan Tee Beng has challenged DAP's Serdang MP Teo Nie Ching to come clean on allegations that her aide had taken at least RM14,000 in kickbacks from a shop tenancy agreement since 2009.

The independent parliamentarian claimed that there was nothing defamatory about his statement made during a press conference last week, and that the onus was on Teo to clarify the issue.

"I said she has three options. Firstly, if it did not happen then she must say so. If she did not know about it but it did happen, she must push for an investigation.

"If she knew about it, then she should cooperate with the MACC (Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission)," Tan said at the MACC office here.

Last week, Tan told reporters in the Parliament lobby that Teo's aide, Chan Huan Guan, had allegedly taken kickbacks from a shop owner in a tenancy agreement to house the Serdang MP's service centre in a Cheras shoplot.

Chan lodged a report on Sunday at the Seri Kembangan police station, claiming that Tan had committed criminal defamation in making the accusation.

Yesterday, Tan also lodged a report at the Seri Kembangan police station on the issue, and later followed up on an earlier report lodged with the MACC by the shop owner against Chan.

Tan said the shop owner had yet to hear of any progress on the case despite lodging several reports and complaints since February with the commission, police, Selangor Mentri Besar's office, the Selangor select committee on competency, accountability and transparency (Selcat), Bar Council, DAP's disciplinary board and the party's Selangor chief Teresa Kok.

It was not a matter of how much money was involved, but the principle of the matter, said the former PKR man.
