Business operators in Bandar Permas Jaya can now breathe a sigh of relief as the stench which has been bugging them for a year has been solved.

The stinky problem and clogged toilets caused by the sewerage problem started during the construction of the Permas interchange and road upgrading works in the area.

Health foodstuff proprietor Chin Wee Fah, 50, said that he was glad as the smelly problem along Jalan Permas 10 has been fixed as his business was badly affected.

"My customers to me they refrain from patronising my shop because of the foul smell and also the clogged toilets," he said.

Permas Selatan MCA division chairman Shium Chan Teck said he received more than 20 complaints from business operators regarding the foul smell in their area.

He said they were upset as they had to fork out RM200 each once every two months to Indah Water Konsortium (IWK) to clear their septic tanks as the smell was unbearable.

"We hope that the sewerage system will be properly maintained to avoid such incident from reoccurring again in the future,'' said Shium.

Permas Jaya assemblyman Datuk M.M. Samy said that the repair works for the sewerage system is 95% completed costing RM340,000.

He said the local council would inspect the underground sewerage and pipes along Jalan Permas 11 and 12 to ensure they were in good condition to prevent a similar problem from happening again.
