Illegal rally will disrupt tourism and economy: Yen Yen
KUALA LUMPUR: The July 9 illegal rally will have a negative impact on tourism and the economy, said Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen on Tuesday.
She said that she had received information that a group of travel agents from China were now hesitant about coming to Malaysia after reading about the rally.
She was speaking to reporters at the Malaysian Tourism Centre in Jalan Ampang after a briefing with major tourism industry players about illegal foreign workers and the impact of the upcoming illegal rally on tourism.
She said the associations, including the Malaysian Spas Association, Malaysian, Malaysian Association of Hotel Owners and Malaysian Association of Hotels, unanimously agreed that the planned July 9 rally should not go on.
The rally will impact our tourism industry negatively, she said, stressing that all parties should call off the rallies on that date.
She accused the Opposition-initiated Bersih 2.0 of wishing to impede the Governments positive progress.
They have a strong agenda to disrupt the countrys economy as the Barisan Nasional is very strong now. They do not want to see us prosper, she said.
