Government spent RM7.2m to promote Najibs GTP, ETP

In a written response to Lim Lip Eng (DAP-Segambut) today, the Prime Ministers Department today said it helped people understand, support, participate, contribute and enjoy the results from the initiatives mooted by the Prime Minister during his tenure.
Until today, as much as RM3.7 million was spent to promote the GTP while RM3.5 million was spent for the ETP in 2011.
The total is far lower than what is usually spent for the purpose of communication by any multinational company, it said in its reply.
The department also explained that the promotions involved the use of both the print and electronic media, supplements in newspapers at least twice a week, special focus in magazines at least twice a month, special edition in newspapers once a week as well as in the current news sections in online news portals daily.
There are also other channels used like in TV and radio where the GTP and ETP are given free coverage through interviews on the transformation programmes carried out by respective ministers, it added.
The extensive communication technique undertaken by the government, it said, serves to benefit the people in various ways as well as proves the Najib administrations People First, Performance Now slogan.
It is important for the government to communicate its successes and progress to the people. For example, the spread of information on the additional four carriages to the LRT will help to encourage more commuters and ease traffic on the roads.
Aside from that, the promotion of programmes under the National Key Result Areas (NKRA) for the reduction of crime and to combat corruption also helps increase public awareness on the concrete step! s that a re being taken and that will be taken by the government on both matters.
It also encourages them to use the new system and give their cooperation in helping to combat both issues as well as improve public perception and investor confidence in the government, it said.
