Bersih: Libya stickers not ours

KUALA LUMPUR, June 30 Bersih has denied any links to fake Bersih stickers which rally the public to overthrow Barisan Nasional (BN) via street protests like in Libya.

Bersih chairman Datuk Ambiga Sreenevasan said the coalition to demand free and fair elections was peaceful and would never incite Malaysians to commit unlawful acts against the government.

We have nothing to do with that. These are very, very mischievous attempts by people to discredit Bersih.

That is not our intention. It is very naughty of them, she told reporters outside Bukit Aman police headquarters here.

PAS revealed the existence of stickers bearing the message, Bersama kita tumbangkan kerajaan sekarang. Buktikan kita mampu seperti Libya (Lets overthrow the government now. Show we can do what Libya has done) yesterday.

Party vice president Salahuddin Ayub said PAS had received information that the stickers, printed in Johor, could now be found all over the country.

He added that he would lodge a police report on the matter soon.

Bersih and Pakatan Rakyat (PR) parties are gearing up for the Bersih 2.0 rally this July 9, the second such gathering calling for electoral reform.

The first rally, also organised by Bersih, was held in 2007 and saw some 50,000 people take to the capitals streets.

The gathering eventually descended into chaos when the police fired tear gas and water cannon at demonstrators.

The event has been partly credited for PRs record gains in Election 2008, which saw the opposition pact swept to power in five states and win 82 parliamentary seats.
