Student: Aid is timely
HAN Chiang High School's Form One student Lum Chun Rong was all smiles when he received the RM100 cash aid from the Federal Government as he plans to use half the amount for the Chinese New Year celebration.
"I'll put the balance in my savings which will be helpful when I want to further my studies," said the 13-year-old, gleefully.
Chun Rong was among 200 recipients from four independent Chinese secondary schools on Penang island, who received the aid yesterday.
The schools were Chung Ling (Private) High School, Penang Chinese Girls' (Private) High School, Phor Tay (Private) High School and Han Chiang High School.
Jelutong Barisan Nasional coordinator Ng Fook On presented the aid to the students in a simple ceremony.

Chung Ling (Private) High School Form Three student Ginger Ooi Shi Yung, 15, said the initiative by the Government was a huge relief for students, especially those from the low income families.
"It may not be a big amount but it's better than nothing," she said.
Shi Yung added that she would use the money to buy reference books.
In his speech, Ng advised the students to spend the money wisely and to study well for a better future.
"This aid comes from the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and is meant for students regardless of their religion, race or political background because he listens to the needs of the people," he said.
