Rally just an excuse to smear Barisan, says MCA

KLUANG: Bersih 3.0 is just the Opposition's excuse to threaten, condemn and smear the image of Barisan Nasional, said MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek.

He said the Opposition was lying when it claimed that the list of voters was tainted.

"If the list is tainted, how can the Opposition be so confident of winning in the coming general election?

"And how did the Opposition win five states in the last general election and subsequently, win eight out of the 16 by-elections if the list was tainted?" he said.

Speaking to reporters here yesterday, Dr Chua said Pakatan Rakyat leaders, including PKR's Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, had been telling the people – even foreign dignitaries – that it would take over Putrajaya after the general election.

"The Opposition is lying, saying different things to different audiences," he added.

Dr Chua said the party also condemned those who turned violent during the rally and yet accused the police of brutality, singling out the incident in which protesters overturned a patrol car after alleging that the vehicle had earlier hit two demonstrators.

Expressing his regret that some non- governmental organisations had been manipulated by the Opposition to take part in Bersih 3.0, he said he hoped the people could see the Opposition's true colours.

Speaking at a lunch gathering earlier, Dr Chua challenged the DAP to announce its development plans for Johor and not just its ambition to take over the state.

He pointed out that DAP must take responsibility when Islamic values are imposed on non-Muslims in Pakatan-ruled states like Kedah and Kelantan.

Dr Chua said it was obvious that DAP was supporting PAS for its own survival and at the expense of the non-Muslims.

"PAS has never changed its objective over four decades of imposing Islamic rule in the country. DAP had been opposing PAS all the while until the last general election," he noted.

In SITIAWAN, MCA secretary-general Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha said the rally was hijacked by the Opposition, adding that Pakatan had taken the lead towards the end of the event.

In PORT KLANG, Klang Barisan Nasional chief Datuk Teh Kim Poo slammed Bersih 3.0 protesters for tainting the "peaceful" gathering with violence.

In BERA, Umno supreme council member Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said there were "foreign hands" behind the street demonstration.
