Mystery SMS seeking party’s response on 12 issues circulated before dinner

ALOR SETAR: An SMS calling for DAP leaders to explain a dozen of its "difficult-to-treat diseases" was circulated on Friday hours before the Kedah DAP held its 13th general election fund-raising dinner.

Sin Chew Daily reported that the source of the SMS remained unknown although it was sent through a telecommunications company with the number 63633.

The Chinese daily learnt that the SMS was sent out about three hours before the dinner.

People in Kedah, including DAP leaders, had received the SMS.

The SMS stated that it was hoped answers would be given to the 12 issues that were mentioned.

Among the issues were the recent amendment by the Kedah Government to the Mufti and Fatwa (Kedah) Enactment disallowing a fatwa from being challenged, policies to segregate men and women in public places and the need for licences to rear dogs and play mahjong.

Other issues included the rebuilding of a pig abattoir, the absence of low-cost housing and the demolition of a temple.

At the dinner, Kedah DAP chairman Lee Guan Aik was the only leader who touched on the issue of the rebuilding of the abbatoir in his speech.

Other leaders at the dinner included DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, assistant national organising secretary Vincent Wu Him Ven, Selangor state assembly speaker Datuk Teng Chang Khim and PAS vice-president Datuk Mahfuz Omar.

None of them addressed the 12 points raised in the SMS.
