"UMNO: Believe us, Anwar is the Porn Star !"
"Never mind what we did is criminal intrusion of privacy to begin with ... This Old Goat Anwar Ibrahim just love to bonk, front and back."
Twitter posts not strong alibi, says security expert
Umno-owned Utusan Malaysia had recently published a report claiming that Anwar had failed to post messages to the micro-blogging service during the time a video allegedly of him having sex with a prostitute was recorded on the night of February 21.
PKR has, however, slammed the report as “malicious” and produced screen captures as proof that Anwar had tweeted at 10.40pm, 10.49pm, 10.50pm, 10.52pm, 10.58pm, 11.03pm (twice), 11.05 pm and 11.08 pm on the night.
The recently revealed sex video implicating the opposition leader was supposedly shot between 10.20pm and 10.41pm of February 21.
“There is still an element of reasonable doubt, mainly because (the Twitter account) is not locked to a device.
“There [are] also no digital fingerprints to be able to verify the identity of the user of the account,” CEO for Hack In The Box, Dhillon Andrew Kannabhiran, told The Malaysian Insider.
The main organiser of HITBSecConf, the largest network security conference in Asia and the Middle East, Dhillon also said he was doubtful that any Twitter data activity could be used as evidence in court.
“In terms of security, if I show you my password, you can use my account... I am not a lawyer but personally, I do not think that the Twitter argument can hold in the courts,” said the computer security expert.
But PKR chief strategist Rafizi Ramli maintained it was Anwar himself who was tweeting on the night in question, and that none of his staff post messages to Twitter on his behalf.
“Yes, I can say that I am 200 per cent sure that Anwar tweets himself; he does his own tweeting.
“He even tweets during meetings, which gets quite annoying... but he does not get his staff to tweet for him,” Rafizi told The Malaysian Insider.
But the PKR man did not know whether any of Anwar’s other staff had access to the PKR de facto leader’s Twitter password.
“That I do not know. You will have to ask him yourself,” added Rafizi.
Rafizi refuted Utusan Malaysia’s claim that there was a one-hour lag between messages posted on Twitter and those on Facebook, another social networking service.
Rafizi said messages sent to Twitter through Selective Tweets will appear only after a two-minute gap on Facebook, again using screenshots to bolster his explanations.
“Facebook does not allow you to set the time zone because it refers directly to the time stated on your personal laptop.
“Whereas in Twitter, its server is based in San Francisco,” said Rafizi.
Rafizi said that PKR would consider “further action” if the paper did not extend an apology to the party and its leader.
