Technician gets death for syabu trafficking

SHAH ALAM, March 29 A technician was sentenced to death by the High Court here today after he was found guilty of trafficking in 574.78g of syabu at the KL International Airport (KLIA) three years ago.Judge Noor Azian Shaari made the decision after Yeoh Thian Hock, 41, failed to establish a reasonable doubt against the prosecutions case.Yeoh was found to be in control and in possession of the drugs during inspection at the Customs inspection counter at the arrival hall of the main terminal building of KLIA at 8.40am on November 13, 2008.He was charged under section 39B (1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which carries the mandatory death penalty upon conviction.The prosecution called seven witnesses throughout the trial, and the defence, one.Royal Malaysian Customs deputy public prosecutor Nor Ariffin Hisham appeared for the prosecution, while Yeoh was represented by lawyer James George.
