PM hands GTP reins to deputy

Reuters picKUALA LUMPUR, March 27 Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin will now lead and supervise the Government Transformation Programme (GTP) until the final year of its implementation next year, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said.Speaking when launching the 2010 GTP Annual Report at the Putra Stadium in Bukit Jalil, here tonight, Najib said Muhyiddin would be assisted by all the six ministers spearheading the six National Key Result Areas (NKRA) set out under the GTP.He will coordinate all actions that need to be taken by ministers, especially the ministers involved in the six NKRAs, Najib said.The six NKRAs are reducing crime, combating corruption, widening access to qualify and affordable education, raising the living standard of the low-income households, improving rural basic infrastructure and improving urban public transport.Najib said the GTP would build upon its success in the first year.The success, he added, would further strengthen the governments resolve to work for the betterment of the people.We will continue to move and to work and we will do all we can for the betterment of the people, said Najib, who is also the finance minister.He also paid tribute to the civil servants whom he said had done a lot in implementing the GTP throughout its first year.Without their support, the GTP will not be realised, he said.Some 7,000 people filled up the stadium to attend the launch of the 268-page report, which can be downloaded from pemandu.gov.my.
